I am not convinced by the desire to use cellulose to get a period correct finish. As far as I am aware the paint used at the factory was not actually cellulose. With all the work you are putting into this project I would be looking for durability in the finish. I went for clear over base on my MGB.
I agree, it's unlikely the factory used celly. Celly is a PITA, one tiny drop of spilt brake fluid and it's game over even if you wipe it off 2 seconds later and anything other than blue goes dull before your eyes under the sun.
Try Max Meyer Selemix, available as 2K or 1K, I've done all sorts of vintage stuff with it but it's only readily available in standard RAL and BS colours etc. P&M Panels in Warrington are not too far away by the looks of it....
