Painting plan

Hi all,
I wonder if you could set me right on my plan for re-spraying my car.

1. Wash car (used fairy liquid to try and remove any wax)
2. Rub down original paint with 600 grit W&D
3. Panel wipe
4. Tack cloth
5. 2K primer on any repair or rough panels (i.e front of bonnet)
6. Rub down (not sure what grit W&D to use)
7. Panel wipe
8. Tack cloth
9. 2K paint
10. Rub down (not sure what grit W&D to use)
11. Machine polish with Farécla G7 (or any recommendation on this would be appreciated)
12. Wax

Have I missed any points?

2. make sure you use a block
6. 800 wet should do it..again use a block and dont rush it , its the most important stage
10. 1200-2500 depending on how bad any defects are etc

Don't think you can use wax on fresh 2k paint??

Panel wipe after washing. You don't want to spread silicones with the abrasives!

What determines fresh? I was thinking about waxing it about a week after spraying and polishing with the Farécla.

Ideally you need to give it at least a month or two before waxing. Use a wax free polish in the interim.

At what points in the process should I use a DA sander? I am assuming it would be OK for 2 and 6 but maybe too rough (even with 1200 plus) for 10?

As tux says about a month. I'd use a Farecla glaze that leaves a nice finish and removes swirl marks left by the polisher.

I only did the repairs with a da before primer to feather the edges back with 180 grit. Then when the primer was dry block flatted with 800 wet. Cause the rest of paintwork was good I used a grey scotchbrite pad and Farecla g-mat. Then when top coat was dry wet flatted with 2000 by hand with plenty of fair liquid in the bucket/

depends what you are doing , da can leave rippely panels if youre not carefull

personaly id block all filler repairs and primer , only use the da to feather the filler paint around the repairs

you can use a soft interface pad with the finer grits ...be aware da pad grits will be roughly half whats been quoted for wet sanding ...i.e 800wet = 400 dry

A DA in inexperienced hands can really screw a job up, if your not completely comfortable using one do it by hand with a block.

2. Rub down original paint with 600 grit W&D
3. Panel wipe
4. Tack cloth
5. 2K primer on any repair or rough panels (i.e front of bonnet) Don't flat primer wet, only dry
6. Rub down (not sure what grit W&D to use) Finish primer with 600 for straight paint or 800 for COB
7. Panel wipe
8. Tack cloth
9. 2K paint
10. Rub down (not sure what grit W&D to use) 6/800 lightly then 1200, 1500, 2000
11. Machine polish with Farécla G7 (or any recommendation on this would be appreciated) G3 then G10 then hand glaze, I use G6 paste first but you need to be careful with it.
12. Wax After a month

What is COB?

COB = Clear Over Base. A basecoat of colour which is flat and the you use a clearcoat to protect it and make it shiny.

Ta, and 'straight paint' must be the end shiny (after polishing) paint out of the gun.

I'm starting to block sand my 2k primer, and 600 grit is clogging up really fast. Is it possible to use a lower grit (320/400) and work up, or is it risking deep scratches too much?

Sounds like your using cheap paper ??? Use freecut and its should be much better
