Parweld Foot Pedal

Hi,

Does anyone know what the schematic of a Parweld XTI 202 foot pedal is? I assume it is just a potentiometer with the three pins connected to the round plug on the front of the welder but it appears there is some knob ont he side of the footpedal which could be some adjustment perhaps???? What is the resistance of the potentiometer?

I think its 10 kohm, can measure it tomorrow if needed.
The side pot is for setting max current. Benefit is that you will use the whole stroke even if you limit it, giving better resolution.

Why does it need a side pot can you not just set the max current on the machine and have a different resolution?

It all depends on how the machine is designed.
As soon as a 202 detects a pot being connected it shuts off up- and down slope, 4T and main knob current control. This also if you attach a thumb wheel control in the torch.

I can understand it shutting off 4T, up and down slope but the current control on the panel? That's a bit strange.
So I assume the current is controlled only by the pot on the side? Can you set the start up current on them as well.

No start up control, and it doesnt go lower than 10 amps with pedal connected.
Had a chat with Langy about that. He managed to adjust the pot to get down to 5 amps, I didnt. But as I recall his was a 201 so they might operate different

His was one of the earlier models which I believe we're more pricey and built to a better standard (not saying the newer ones are not good either).

I'm looking to create my own pedal given the cost....it's a but hard to make out the pot connections....

If AndersK you could take the resistances of the two pots that would be great. I take it the switch takes the place of the start button on the torch itself????

If it's the same as the TA 202 which I think the newer ones are I found the AC to be pretty good and stable.

It might be issues with mine, throws a massive surge when starting the arc, but only in Ac mode. A 1,6 tungsten will ball up heavily after 3 starts.

I contacted Parweld about it and they said they would test a machine. Now they dont even reply e-mails...

Easily because they make one as a standard item for the ta202 which is pretty much identical unit. Ssc pedals cannot be beaten for there tiny price tags.

Sounds like the pot on your foot switch isn`t on zero before you start the process,common fault with a lot of these types of units

That was the problem with mine, I adjusted it and it then started at 5

I doubt it's like an rtech pedal. I don't know what the newer rtech ones are like nowadays but the older freebies chucked in were not great same as the older torches. I'd imagine rtech have updated them better now. Parweld and thermal arc seem to package stuff up with decent extras.

This looks like the Murex switch but with one or two subtle changes
