Perkins prima water pump

As above, I’m trying to find one for a friend. Or even a rebuild kit! It’s a former montego engine and it appears to be unavailable. I’m trying to convince him to fit a 200 or 300 tdi into his lightweight instead but need to have a backup in case he’s determined to keep the Perkins!

I used to press bearings out of water pumps to rebuild the harder to get water pumps, the ones I pressed out
were all the same size[I don't know if I was just lucky].

Same engine is fitted to some boats, Iirc wpump is bloody expensive

Volvo penta MD22 or TAMD22
Perkins M50 or M60

My local engine reconditioners can get water pumps repaired they send them off somewhere. I had a Bedford one done a few years ago.

The problem with the Perkins Prima is they all look the same but they are different, ex fwd engines use a different front timing set up to the rwd so its not just a case of fitting a Sherpa/ldv/marine waterpump unless you have all the other gubbins off the front of another engine. Got a few rwd Primas floating about if he wants the bits to convert it, the water pumps are available for the RWD/Marine versions.

There is a couple listed on ebay, they dont look like the picture above.
Possiby the 1 pictured is for a rwd van.

I did have one from when Imwas building the metro and looking at different options. I'll have a look see if it's still under the bench, but this was 30 yrs ago...

I believe it’s a later montego engine but I could be wrong! I think his best option is to fit a 200 or a 300 to be honest and actually have spares availability

A few people have asked for the part numbers for the diesel timing belt, ebay apparently has an annoying habit of coming up with petrol ones. All of the diesel ones are the same, turbo and non turbo, engine codes BA and BB. The belt is the same as a Nissan Bluebird diesel one, but does not fit...

Get a LDV 200 (not the Pilot) water pump. They have the same Perkins Prima and the pumps are far cheaper.

I believe the timing chest is different, possibly disparity between pump lengths?

Timing chest? It’s all belt. The end of the block is a hole the pump sits over. Simple as can be.
A montego 2l petrol pump would fit the engine, as would a rover 800 petrol, rover 220 gti, rover 220 diesel, 400 petrol...
Loads. You might have to get creative with belt tensioner, but compared to an engine change?
Actually the T series petrol cars had a pump hung off the front of the block, using one of the core plug holes, not ideal for a north south engine in a narrow bay...
Add to the list, any o series engine - maestro montego 1700, Sherpa petrol etc...
They are all a lot simpler than the transverse primal pump.

You can't use the MD50 or Sherpa pump as the alternator will be in the way.

There were at least two water pumps fitted to the FWD Primas.
The one pictured by TinbasherDan is the later type, fitted to Montego, Maestro cars and the Maestro vans.
Same water pump for both turbot and naturally astigmatic versions.
The earlier FWD water pump will not fit the later timing case.
(I found this out the hard way back when I ran Maestro vans)
