Petrol tank repair

I have this old spare petrol tank and it leaks slightly from the nozzle. Looks like it was soldered on the inside. Any suggestions on how I could fix it? Tig braze or Tig around the edge to seal?

I would use a tank sealant, partly to cure the leak and partly to protect it from modern fuels that absorb moisture and cause rot, I wedges a Ford Anglia van tank into my cement mixer drum the other day with TFR and a few handfuls of nuts/bolts inside, cleaned it up a treat! then sealed it.

Flame braze probably easier on thin stuff? Why is it leaking, rusting through?
I assume filled with water to stop it going bang, not something Id want to try.

It’s just a small spare tank, one that goes in the spare wheel well. It will just be used for water now so am over thinking it. Some JB weld around the inside filler nozzle and maybe a wee bead of PU sealant or JB weld on the outside.

clean it up flux it and soft solder it i filled a 5 gallon can with petrol and it was leaking turned it upside down and soldered it with the fuel still in using a large copper iron heated on the gas stove

A stick of tinmans solder and some bakers fluid is whats needed, I've made and repaired many of them in the past, a propane or butane mix torch will get it hot enough, no need for oxy acetylene

We had one of those smart Russell Hobbs stainless steel kettles years ago, the spout fell off one day. I took it to somewhere that did TIG to get it stuck back on & was told they are only soldered on. I soldered it back on, it wasn’t a pretty job, but it did for work for a good few years.

The quote was meant for soldering the petrol can not the teapot. Silly me or words to that effect.

yes it is easy providing you scrupulously clean the joints and use an acid flux or it wont flow as above post russel hobbs ketteles used to be soldered on .i used to repair them at work

buy a plastic one ,,, job done.
different if it was off the last remaining hand made roman chariot and filled with dragon blood and sealed with a unicorn horn , but its not.

But it is a 50 year old tank made specifically to fit in the spare wheel well of my 51 year old car. Done right there should be nothing to worry about. I finished cleaning it today and heated it up.

Remember trying to solder brass to stainless years ago with multicore solder. it ran off it like little ball bearings.
