I decided against the braze in the end and just welded the tops and the sides left the wire showing underneath they'll do for now.

Oddly enough I've been doing some research on Phoenix's or is it phoenii, for a project I've got in mind. Seems to be many different ideas on what it looked like and it's defining features other than arising from the flames obviously.

Feet look spot on. Lovely scaly texture I think lightly ground and welded are great natural looking surface textures.

Cheers, I tickled them up with a thin slitting disk so the marks would run around the leg and toes but it was mostly to get rid of the spatter, then polished them with the wire brush.

If you still have the tail to do I wonder if it won't 'even up' a bit and look proportional?
I like the way it's coming on though, it really is a work of art.

I think you're right, I've looked at my anatomy drawings again and I don't think they're a million miles off.

are you saying the rest is rubbish the body and wings are going to be done in sheetmetal, hopefully stainless, copper and brass so I can hopefully get some good colours, the beak i'll do in brass too I reckon.

Sorry I missed your reply, no not saying that about anything else, just really liking the head and just spotted the post again seeing those feet/claws, wow, cant wait to see it completed!

I'm hoping to clad it with brass, copper and stainless hot rod style flames rather than actual feathers.

How about adding long "feathers" (two or five) on the head as some classic phoenix description describes?

Spent the day playing with this with not a lot to show for it. I changed the position of the legs (i'm still not happy) and the angle of the wings and started to put some flames on the legs which took ages.

Be a bit difficult as it's a mythological bird! .....but I know what you mean.
Lots of different versions though.

I've got loads of pics, I use pinterest a lot, i've even got anatomy drawings, both are technically right just not sure if it's how I want it to look
