Pillar drill powered table lift

The shaft is 70 mm. Either I’ll get away with it because I’ll have the jack close or I’ll fit twin actuators and push from both sides.

If you're going to be lifting the 'collar', won't you need to design it so that it's being lifted from two opposing sides? Otherwise it will want to 'cobble' and jam on the drill shaft?

If you were trying to lift the table from the centre that could well happen. If you lift at a point nearer to the column which is at, or past, the centre of gravity, then it should slide easily.

So new plan. I need a 70mm or 2.75 inch clampy thing and a 70 mm or 2.75 inch both slide thing internal diameter. How do I get or make one of those please? Ideally I need to bolt or weld to it.

Both will attach to the column and actuator goes between them. Collar goes up to the table.

Although now I think of it maybe two exhaust clamps with a plate. I do want it to look relatively pretty (I’m like that) so I’d like a nice looking clamp.

For the slider maybe I could just weld up some sort steel box with 70 mm holes top and bottom?

Would that matter? As long as it can be 'made' to work to lift your table, near the column I meant to say but said by @rtbcomp in post #20

I posted some pics of the one we lift the table with some time ago, it consists of a pulley a length of Bowden cable & a lump of lead, The lead is the counter balance simple & cheap has worked for 20 years without a problem.
Will try & find photos

Thanks I’m going with the actuator. I have couple of actuators and just looking at clamp and slide approaches. I might get a 76mm tube at 2.5 thickness slide it on cut it in half and weld the actuator to each half so it lifts them apart. That would reach top and bottom of shaft.

Okay 76 mm Od tube with 3mm thickness does give me a slide fit.

Now I could swap the actuator to one that makes the wiring easier for my joystick.

But where is the fun in that ?

Next up is to make up a clamp at the bottom of the tube and attach the actuator.

If that's a 4 way joystick why not add left & right slew?

Assuming you can get another one for £1.04

Because of the long slide area I can get with the tube I don’t think it’s going to bind with the one actuator.

You slide it up & down the pillar, (No I am not making a balance for it) when resting on the job you move lever & due to the collar it cams down on whatever you have under the end, super bit of kit it was on the machine when bought so quick it gets used

Planning to weld a couple of nuts to the tube to create the clamp. Is it safe enough to grind the zinc off or can you get mild steel nuts uncoated?
