Me too. But I must admit that I'm just as likely to use it naked or with clear lenses on the assumption that the arc is under the workpiece.
I should stop doing that, then...

I got the glassses u linked to skot they are nice glasses actually, nah i wouldnt cut without them on i was using my welding mask before on grind but the glasses let me see more..

My trouble was I was (inappropriately) doing a spot of "tidying" on the face of a big chunk of cast steel. So at times directly exposed to the arc. The only bit of me not covered was the tops of my cheeks. No eye troubles with the shade 5 glasses that came with the machine.
Just need to make sure skin isn't exposed directly to the arc. Most important with hands I expect as they'd be closer and less shielded by the torch than your face.

It's not just the potency of the arc.
If plasma for some reason doesn't cut through in a place it has a tendency to spit out the top like a volcano. You wouldn't want all that hitting your face. At least if your going shade 5 make it a face shield.

Cant believe its nearly 3 years back i started this thread!
since then the Esab mask i was using for plasma is long dead and to honest it was too dark for the low amp plasma work i do,
i did buy the Bolle shade 5 glasses and find they work ok,
still might try one of my welding helmets that both have a cut mode to compare against the glasses,
that, and the added face protection from them.
