Ive seen worse that that under a bath, a big screw on lid from a coffee jar as a stop end and a load of insulation tape, i never bodge where i can't get to after as i have bad dreams.

you can see why people just bodge it the thought of no toilet if you fluff it up
when i did mine it was broken way before prob when the bathroom got put in poss by a workman as it had some hard mastic? fiberglass stuff over it over the years the crack opened again and thats why the ceiling in the kitchen was bowed in meny places
i was expecting the bath leaking untill i seen this my heart sank but got up one day said got to sort it bashed all the plaster out the way and removed the wood frame both top and bottem cut took a bit down to plumb place ordered a bunch of parts was not that hard but i did in the end have easy access then just sorted the frame and plasterbording then left the rest untill when i redecorated
i think some one recomended a wire cutter that they make it easy doing the cut but i used a fine tooth saw just liked the hard way
