I originally forgot to add the pictures , you will see the supply comes up from the ground as two separate cables one has a greater diameter than the other , looking at the Henley block fuse holder thing , the live is on the left of of about 15mmo/d. The right hand neutral I'm sssuminng is approx 13mm o/d. Must be SWA as it s a mid 1990's house
I never know you could get single core I'm assuming it's that , but i know nothing about electricity distribution too houses

I would be very surprised if this is a separate L & N, would probably be a Feed-in and Loop out to the next customer.
Has something been moved? I cant see how that head was ever fitted to the original backboard.

I can second that advise that head unit should not be moved or subjected to any movement.
If this is DNO equipment and not part of a privet landlords distribution network, the upstream disconnection current could be huge.
I have seen a poorly terminated split concentric cable clear its own fault and that was on a 100a supply the thing just kept arcing until it burnt its self clear.

in the past I have moved a few peoples meters on to different walls and shortened the cables while live 
made me some fast money and saved the punter time and money ive done a reasonable amount of live cable jointing years ago just get well tooled up with insulated gear rubber mats dry day and a face shield . I wouldn't recommend anyone doing it diy unless you have a death wish its ok 3 phase 440 v but I wouldn't want to touch anything higher without proper training

Modern stuff is ok, but the old tar and paper insulated cables are very fragile even the DNO dig a pit and isolate out in the street first.

I have absolutely never moved meter tails with big rubber gloves on to avoid pulling the DNO - not something to be undertaken, but hypothetically if one did, one would certainly want to think through the order of operation very carefully as it would be very easy to get stuck with cable in hand and the required screwdriver 3 feet away....
440 is serious enough, and as for those crazies that dangle from helicopters playing around with 36kv, I’ve never understood how they don’t arc out with those massive brass balls they have...

its even more dangerous doing undergound joints live at 11000 volts
a cable jointer was doing one down a hole in the road from us and it blew up and killed him

There was a vid I saw on a safety course a while ago of two chaps in a HV plant room working on a distribution panel, one of the guys was half in the open panel with a good size non insulated spanner I assume tightening down a connection to a bus bar. Next thing there is a large flash and all that is left is his boots and a smouldering mess! Not a pretty sight!
Some traveling types were killed not far from me the other year after trying to steal some underground HV cables with a Paddy bike, all that was left of them was some boots a very burnt saw and some large scorch marks!!

my mate worked on the hv stuff. had to go to a substation in Hartlepool a kid had jumped the fence to get his ball and was on top of the transformer the 3 phase bars are uninsulated 11 kv and he got between them and burnt to death 
he said the busbars were burnt and had to be replaced and all that was left was his melted trainers on the transformer top
