after seeing the pics i also thought thats base coat and had to read on to see if max 68 had said otherwise.
at 1 point you could get cellulose all in 1 metallic no laquer required i used it once years ago but cant remember what car i used it on.

Hi again and thanks for your replies and suggestions.

I have polished a couple of bits, to see if I could get a shine without lacquer. Here they are:

I have used farecla G3, as suggested by pedrobedro. I'm quite happy with the result. What do you think?

I think that looks ace You couldn't ask for better and you know exactly what's gone into it plus you know you can fix whatever happens to it in the future.
