Reversing the pulley won't reverse the airflow. Consider the pulley as nut and the air passing through it as a bolt. Reversing the nut won't change the relative motion between the nut & bolt as long as the nut is rotated in the same direction in each case.

They recommend 1/2 metre clearance all round the machine, although they state this is for maintenance, but it would certainly help with air circulation.
Another problem with having a compressor in an enclosed space is that the pump will take in hot air, thus making the problem worse.
