Just to let you know so you can sleep at night, Andy has purchased a regulator.

It would appear that the taper on bsp isn't sufficient as the high pressure gauge is leaking where it fits into the reg. I would hardly have expected it to seal at 3000psi without some form of help.
I plan to source an elbow for the regulator stem and make a tidy job of it once and for all. It's hardly going to cause an accident if it's done correctly.

The threads on industrial gas connectors were never designed to be gas tight, they are just a mechanical means of bringing the two seating areas together, putting PTFE tape on the threads wont cure the leak, only hide it

I think a few people are failing to read my post correctly. Its the bspt thread on the gauge that is leaking. There is no sealing face just a thread.

Thanks Jim it arrived today. I don't feel there was ever going to be any lack of sleep on my part. I'm quite capable of making a neat and safe job, its people fretting on my behalf.

Often these threads are sealed with engineering adhesives, like Loctite bearing and sleeve fit. They use it on stem to body connections too.
