Possible problem Mitutoyo quickmike does anyone have one?

The lack of repeatable readings was the immediate red flag imo. Definitely best to get shut of it.

Unless you use a mic every day i don't really see why you need a super quick digital fancy one anyway... I know we all like nice toys, but it just doesn't make sense... A decent digital caliper is far more useful and save the mics for critical work.

To be honest it's a bit too quick opening and closing. Gone from one extreme to the other.

Maybe a Quantumike would suit you better? Apparently It's between a Standard and a Quickmike.

If only my cheapish digital mike was a bit quicker I would be more than happy with it. The thing is so fine a pitch it takes forever so I hardly ever use it.
I wasn't aware the Quantumike was a quick thread - don't see why you would need a faster one. It is only my 2nd ever ebay purchase I have been unhappy about. Shame I paid £120 for a £450 micrometer. I will treat myself and buy a new Quantumike - they are on offer for about £180 plus VAT.

If it doesn't work, you really paid £120 for some scrap that looks like a mic.

I have seen people commenting that if you go too fast you can crash one of these fast micrometers and damage them. If so bad design on Mitutoyos part.

I wonder if that is what damaged mine. But you would think the thimble would just slip when it hits the end?

the thimble does when closing the micrometer smaller, but the ratchet only works one way doesn't it, so the momentum of the ratchet/screw when undoing the micrometer/making it bigger is it hits a hard stop at the end of travel!

Ahh I see - I would never open it fast that way. Ham fisted people everywhere!

You can easily read a few microns under with a normal (Non-quantu) Mitutoyo mic by closing it too fast, I'd imagine the high pitch ones are even more prone to it.

You do have to come in gently, but to be honest with the carbide anvils, it's very repeatable.

I can get mine to repeat on gauge blocks to a tenth quite easily.

That gives you confidence on real parts.

At first i really wasn't sure about the quantumike. It was heavy, bulky, and i couldn't get the right readings compared to my manual mitutoyo.

I've now sold that manual mitutoyo.

Not yet!
Sent the dodgy one back. Broke at moment spent too much money on new machines but next on my list.
I have to be honest my DML is VERY accurate and reliable - just takes a stupid number of turns to get anywhere which means I don't use it much.
