Materials are coming in at the 2k mark. If I add my time on at what my day job pays (£25ph) it would take the total to £3,250 - so still approx. 9 grand cheaper than a Bryce Suma or Vector Powerdrive one. We could have bought in a cheap basic model but wouldn't have the range of movement and no working to the side and they start around 3k for the weight we have fitted.

Got the hammer weight and post cap all fitted on to the mast today. Greased her up and had a wee test with a 4" square post - now totally in the ground after 6 thumps with the weight 
Hopefully get a video of it chapping in some 8ft straining posts tomorrow.

I love the fact that you have full articulation on the column.
do you mean how to hold the post when driving it? If so, it has a post cap that slides up and down independent of the weight and has a spike on it to hold the post.

I got plenty of "inspiration" for the design from the big names in the post driver market
It hangs out about a foot when in the transport position. not too bad compared to some agri kit that wipes out a whole dual carriage-way when using the road!

And, it'll be plastered with stuff like this anyway......
Not unless the ground conditions require it. I'll look into fitting a rock spike attachment if we really need it. The 400kg weight should get the straining posts in the ground on most parts of the 3 farms.

bought posts last year from a local outlet highland I--------L supplies ,beggars all split only half in.
Not easy to get good quality posts these days. They usually go for the best quality Larch posts here, but they still only really last 10-15years tops. My mate has looked into the metal Clippex post system to do their boundaries with other farms. Network Rail have started using it on some of the line boundary fences I drive trains over.

Ptoblem with steel again will depend on the weight and quality of the galvanizing, some of which is so thin one some items it beggas belief.

I friend of ours has some posts which are supposed to last 20+ years but they are impregnated with bitumen and they are horrible to work with.
They look handy bits of kit for right awkward jobs. I reckon it'll work fine as long as they have a good oil return line for fast flow to get the hammer down fast. as long as the digger boom is up to it, it will work fine. Vector Powerdrive do a few models for digger booms.

Untreated peeled chestnut posts seem to be popular down here in the West Country at the moment, it's certainly pushed up the price of chestnut thinnings. I can't see supply meeting the demand for long though.
No testing done today as the ground is far too wet to take the tractor over. The rain hasn't really let up here for the last 6 weeks; the ground is saturated and can't take anymore rain 
. The weather is to break tomorrow and be dry for 2 days then back to more rain.

We've got the opposite here, I fill a 230l barrel of water from the stream with a bucket for the sheep and I had to dam it today to get enough depth to fill the bucket, normally I struggle to stop the water coming over the top of my wellies in the shallow bit!No testing done today as the ground is far too wet to take the tractor over.
