On that thort would a double acting ram not retract faster?
It would help It along. hopefully your target of 200kg hammer would be enough if the oil has a good return flow to the tank.

Ours has a hydraulic clutch in the motor that releases the spool drum from motor, which runs as long as flow is held in the other valve releases clutch, motor never stops till flow valve released.
Interested in how does the Nitrogen work ?

I'm surprised they use hydraulic rams, I'd have though a hydraulic motor, turning a drum with wire around it would be better....
as it lifts you can have it trip a switch/leaver/whatever and flow the in port back to the supply tank
weight should drop good and fast
hydro pump keeps pumping the whole time, the weight will auto drop/rais at the right speed, no need to user intervention, just stand/sit there and hold the 'go' leaver
might need wire coil spring loaded, so wire doesn't uncoil too far when fence post is just starting and weight doesn't drop so far

This system is used in IHC hydrohammers, the ram weight is the piston in a massive hydraulic cylinder, the cylinder is open at the
Top and capped with a drum shape cylinder head, the head is precharged with N2 to make the hammer capable punching over it's weight, very handy as they are very heavy as they are!

Its been a long time since I was a hammer tec! The diesel hammers are more spectacular.
easyest way is to get a pecker and put a cup on the end of the pin to sit the post in. that wacks posts in quick,
if your useing a ram, no point supersizeing all the hydralics. you want a smallish ram so it's naturaly quick but most of these only have 3/8 ports these want cutting off and drilling out to 3/4. but cross the ram with an electric check valve to make it dump quick

No progress really, I've just got back from nearly 3 weeks away and haven't got back into the swing of things yet.. ole keep the tgread up to date as progress continues.
