Come in all different shapes and sizes
It seems to be hitting that sweet spot where it's flowing nicely without choking the funnel which I can never seem to hit......
Glad somebody replied Pete. Was beginning to think I was in a team of my lonesome with that technique - also shown to me by my Dad when I was youngMy dad showed me this when I was a teenager and I must have shown at least 50 other people over the years. You just have to be brave getting it started and you get very little splash.
I still get a kick out of watching their eyes light up when I pour 5 gallons of diesel into a normal genny spout from a couple of feet up and it all goes in the hole.

Just noticed what you actually said ( the bit in bold) I don't use funnels very often, not even when filling a helm pump from a 1 or 4l container, the helm pumps only have a 1/4BSP fill hole and very rarely do I spill any, 2-300mm distance and a positive , deliberate motion when tilting is the way to do it. It was my Chemistry teacher that taught me that when he was showing us the correct way to decant acid.
Honestly it is not hard to do, you just don't have to be scared of it.Ever had one of those occasions where you feel like throttling Mr Perfect, and then walking off chuntering? If I didn't feel I was crap at this to start with,....
