It's only been ten years since they started, got to say it's very very anal detailing.
I'm not a fan of the DIY circuit boards in the latest episode, I can't see that lasting very long with vibration and temperature cycling. You can see in the video how little effort it takes to peel the traces off the board.
I posted before I got to that bit. Still don't like it, they could have done the same thing with solid core wire and zero development time figuring out how to print solder. It's no wonder there's so much time between episodes.
I feel their pain. I went thru hell getting the dashboard set up on my buggy build. Sensors don't match, gauges don't match with each other. I tried getting Arduino to manage it all but that failed because of electrical noise. Digital dashes either need Canbus (don't have) or want you to install duplicate sensors. I had to give up a lot of my aspirations and settle for a simple dash.
I managed to reduce a lot of the noise with capacitors, and a power controller that had a built in filter. But my aspiration was to use an Arduino temp sensor on the engine and that's where lots of noise came from. I probably could have got it working but it was taking up a lot of my time and there were more important things I had to do on the build.I built an Arduino based gauge, was additional information for my TD5, the chap who did a lot of the coding had a version for his BMW
To get around noise, I used an isolator that was also a voltage regulator
I had used these when I was deep into car audio and wanted to use bits of kit that were designed to be safely installed in a studio control room, not a car with over 2000w of amps
It wouldn't, however, have filled an hour long episode
Cynical much?
