went to the coop again and they had 3 different 6013 rods
oerlikon/Air liquide fincord m - €24.95
oerlikon/Air liquide citofix - €12.95
murex cant remember what type €18.50
whats the difference between the first two?google didnt explain the price difference
i took a chance and bought the citofix box first,will probably try all three and go from there

found a new suppliers local ish to me,got a 15.5kg box of esab 6013's for €50

What size rod did you have in the esab?
Mostly head over to welders equipment in togher.

3.2 esab,they burned nice on an oilcooled 3 phase machine,but just didnt seem as nice on my inverter.finished weld looked good,though.ive since sold that inverter,but it had an ocv of 46v,so that might have been the issue?
welders equipment is only 5 mins from me,but i go to southern welding in little island mostly.
they sell magmaweld which are basically oerlikon(same factory) for a tenner per box.

Could be, I'm learning myself at the moment so finding out all about this!
Must check little island out, haven't heard of them. How are the rods? What size box is that?

i think the rods are great,love using them now im a little better.

Have you been welding long? I'll certainly check them out, no name brand is 12 euro in local co-op.

only stick welding about 3 months.

I've just bought 10 rods for £1 at the local tool shop in Glasgow (Bills Tool Store).
They are 2.5mm 6013s (Fincord I think).
Not sure how 10 rods compares to 5kg of rods...

5 kilo's of Siftrode 2.5 electrodes is about 265 rods according to the Rtech web site & cost £18.59 inc VAT, so you are paying over the odds buying small amounts. Don't know about Fincords prices or weights, but at a guess would be similar.

Thanks Cobbler - I struggled to find out how many would be in a 5kg box.... however, by those numbers, I'm only paying 10p compared to 7p per rod... so I'm happy with this (especially as I'm a novice still finding out what works for me and my equipment best)

Before I was using Ductil (Buzau - Romania) or other expensive rods (Cemont, Lincoln, etc) for 2,5 euro / kg , but for 2 years now, I only buy chinese rods (E6013 + E7018) (from a romanian company who brings rods here) for 1 or max. 1,5 euro / kg and works as the same as the best brand ones. I didn't feel any difference in welding or strengh properties.
