Primer during restoration

Oh I see, fair point.

Some people reccommend Epoxy Mastic 121, which is I think is originally designed as a chassis paint, but many people use it as a primer?

There is only one epoxy primer to use in my opinion and that's Lechlar, it's got so much going for it in that its one of the cheapest and anybody can get a good finish with it, it also dries quick, you can spray it, brush it or roller it, need I go on

As a first time user of epoxy I went for lechler and it sprays really well.All you need to do is make sure its been tinted before you buy it, my supplier gave me loads of options for colours of tint but I went for black with a greyish high build primer over the top.This was so when flatting down the high build if I see black I know I've hit epoxy.

Got a top tip for you, if you finish the primer coats with Epoxy tinted to the topcoat colour the stonechips won't show up as bad

It'll probably get so little use once I've built it I won't have to worry about stonechips!

It sounds like the Lechlar primer is the way to go for my truck. Do you use the Lechlar topcoat as well?

I use the Lechlar basecoat and Lechlar Acrifan 2000 clear if I can get it, If not I use Max Meyer Maxiclear or Nexa

Hey guys is the lechlar epoxy primer a proper 2k that needs an air fed mask to spray it? or is it like the rusbuster epoxy with no ISOCYANATES so can be sprayed with a standard A2 - P2/3 respirator mask?

2k just means 2 components, not that it's isocyanate. All epoxy primers I've come across are safe with an A2/P2 mask as they do not contain isocyanates.

Thanks Richie, I didn't know that and so bought that very expensive rustbuster stuff, have you a particular make you recommend that I can spray in my garage under cellulose and where can I buy it please?

I use a Moldex 8000 series half mask and found a company called Farmchem to be the cheapest.

If you want to spray it ask them for the thinners, which they haven't listed on the website yet.

I'm sure you've probably seen Lechler recommended a million times on here as an alternative.
