problem with snap on 130

think ive sussed it, my shed is metal, if the shed door was touching the trailer would that cause it to melt the earth? and if so will it be ok or have i just ruined the damn thing.

That could very well be the problem, the welding current could have been shared between the mains cable and the return cable, especially if the shed is earthed to mains earth.

It may be as well to check any other wiring you may have in the shed.

You should get away with a new mains cable.

as rtb comp says check your shed to find out if its earthed if so you will have to insulate what ever you are welding in the future if you have a welding bench sit it on wooden blocks

hmm ill stick a new mains cable on and carefully try it, worse that can happen is it cuts the rcd (i hope).

it really needs PAT testing as you may have damaged the insulation in the transformer a simple multi meter might not show the damage i would recommend getting the shed wiring checked as well i have seen such faults catch fire hopefully it will be fine

with this problem you really do need to check if there is a short between you welder case and your earth (welding clamp) if there is you need to find it and sort it before you try it again.

ok put a new lead on it and all working ok(apart from wire feed slipping) need to look at it.
run out of gas now.

just checked and there is NOT an open circuit between case and welding earth.

Have you fixed this problem as well?

yep now an open circuit, also got the wiring checked in the shed, all fine, seems the only thing that was damaged was the lead.
