Cheers m8...it's good to be moving forwards again. Decided to get all the refit done just to have some positive progress. That tiger seal is good stuff....it's got enough grab to hold the seal in place but I threw a few magnets on there too just to be sure. Its a tricky seal to fit because once fitted it does seem to be a tight fit so it can't just be stuck on....it needs a little tension.
It's fun using black tiger seal on new white paint!!!
There is still an inner seal to fit which finishes that gap off nicely between the body and the roof panels.....all in all I'm very happy....will be even happier if the roof still fits!
Still have a shed load of panels to paint but I know that's going to be difficult work!

Got the last bits bolted back on...only bits left to go back on require panels to be painted...so next week I'll be painting panels again. Still plenty to do but we've definitely taken a step forwards I think.
That roof seal alone took about a week to refit....it's a single piece and has to fit perfectly! The windscreen chrome requires the interior roof panels to be removed again....they are biscuit brittle....I was so worried about breaking them but thankfully they stayed in 1 piece!
I know the pic of the roof looks like the last one....but this time all the seals are in and everything is adjusted so it's final fit!

Finally some forward progress.....
We've had all the paint problems possible I think so far...
1. crazing and cracking....switched to epoxy hb primer now and I think we are never going back to the old stuff. The epoxy is more difficult to mix being 3 components (base, thinner, hardener) + we had to work with it quickly....but went on lovely and so far no issues with the cracking. This panel wasn't bare metal!
2. Fish eyes....I now know what they look like! MrC identified the issue as contamination so we basically threw out all the stuff we were using and bought new stuff (buckets, sponges etc)....seems to have gotten rid of it.
Both of us are totally amazed with this paint....this is literally half an hour after it came out of the gun....the shine on it is amazing.
Conditions were less than ideal....dirty cold garage.....so all things considered this is a great result.
.....just 8 more panels to get painted!

Hi Exuptoy....it's cellulose....got it from paints4u online.
MrC reckons it might be the thinner that's producing the impressive results....although we did notice that after the first 2 coats go down its covered the primer (we are doing 4 coats of colour). I'll take a picture of the thinner can when I get a chance.....going to stick with the same product now I think (keep it consistent).
We are using a 20+ year old Devilbiss gun that I found on eBay...but its in the hands of someone who has been painting for 30+ years!

If anything PD to my eye off the pics ....
It looks a better finish straight off the gun than with flatting/polishing . I'm looking at the way the led lights reflect in the paint .
Quality none the less

Yea if conditions were better in the garage it would have almost been there straight out of the gun. Unfortunately we got a few bits of dust on the paint so it needed flatting back. Cellulose is great as it's soft enough to work with after its gone off.
Yea MrC lives over in East London...I think he just does local stuff generally....I pay him a bit extra for coming over to west london to help me with the paint.
After the flatting it's definitely a lot smoother I think. I'm just happy we got past the paint issues we were having....I think the epoxy primer made a big difference so we'll stick with that. Still have a pair of doors and a pair of wings to get done....but progress is progress.
We both really like the colour....it really is an excellent green and really suits the car well. Only problem is the paint is so good I think the old chrome is going to look rubbish when I refit it!

My neighbour did that - had the car painted, then the chromework looked crap 
He ordered someone from a specialist that does rechromed Fig parts and they were terrible, full of pinholes, so he ended up stripping it all off the car, blasting it and dropped it in at Prestige - took a month or so to get it back but it looks far better for new chrome too.
He's on with the rear suspension now - I'm making him some polybushes as we speak - he may as well have built a new car by now

Cheers PhilipM....thats good to know about the re-chromed bits....and they aren't cheap either!
This one is for my friend....I told her she would have to sort the chrome out herself...couple of new bumpers is £1k...yea I'm not doing that!!

The 1k bumpers are 1200 if you HAVE to source them , I always say to people when I have cars brought for repair to me ‘it will be cheaper if you bring me the parts and I’ll fit them ‘
Depends how good a friend she is tho to be fair .

I really like ebay....I always have a look at the projects for sale on there. Why is it everyone uses the phrase "nearly finished"...when they clearly aren't....not by a long shot!

I like a good trawl through the project section too but to add on to the point you make It's the same as 'barn find' ..... Every rust bucket seems to have been found in a barn lol
