Just a few pics of me and my daughters newest "project", my GTO-TT that's been sat for nigh on 10 years.

We're on MOT prepping duty for next week.

It's amazing solid underneath, I may get away with no welding at all for MOT which is the polar opposite of the Golf!.

We've been on brake servicing duty, Dynax S50'd all the rear subframes and had a good look round.

The headlights are amazingly overcomplicated but we got there in the end.

Shiny Header tank going in to replace my Robinson's juice bottle..

Will see how it fairs at MOT time but we are both quietly confident!.

All brake lines are in amazing condition, idles at 14.7:1 afr, goes and stops and no rust to speak of.

Just nice to spend some spanner time with my lass and she loves working on our cars

How are you finding the availability of parts?

Not too bad on the parts front at the moment.

I've got a new Waterpump and cambelt.

All the fuel system is in AN-6 now with billet fuel rails etc.

Shock Absorbers are in great condition, they are Electronically Controlled so may be an issue in future as new ones are NLA I believe.

Plenty have been broken for spares but I've got a fair old stock of bits, spare gearbox/ ptu etc.

My second choice to my Vette. Love them in every way, Only down side is working on them, no room for a rat to fart in that engine bay.

I like both these and the FTO. Had a Carisma years ago and it was probably the most reliable car we've ever owned.

That would be ideal but can't see my wife being too enthusiastic!.

There's a bloke down the street with a car lift in his front garden, never seems to use it though!.

If I had access round the back of our house we'd have a lift in the blink of an eye, but it's field which to be honest isn't the end of the world. Nice and quiet.

Bits and pieces.

We have new wiper blades to go on but rusty wiper arms.. A quick prep with the Roloc disks and some Wurth gloss later they look brand new.

New battery fitted.

Modified the shiny header tank, it has a 8mm copper dip tube in it now fed through one of the barbed fittings (less chance of a leak).

Daughter downloaded an MOT checklist and we've gone though it and all seems in order (touch wood!).

De-gunned the Boot shuts and cleaned out boot drains.

I've ordered a coolant filter kit, will be flushing radiator / engine and heater core, new coolant and coolant filter installation (after MOT).

She just enjoys working on stuff but to be fair she has her eye on a nice coat at a local car meet shop so may get a surprise at some point..

Give her all the encouragement you can!. We've had a great time chatting and spannering.

She was out with me in the Golf on Monday Morning (local car meet). It was a "Supercar day". I said she probably knows more about cars than 90% of the people there .

They grow up far too quickly, make the most of it.

Well, we were hoping 2 for 2 on the MOT front but unfortunately a fail on the GTO..

Just a pair of steering rack boots (£32), BUT what an a-hole of a job to get to them.

We were straight on it when we got home but unfortunately no local factors had any in stock.

Ordered a set to hopefully arrive tomorrow.

Had to take the MOT tester out with his decelerometer (sp), had a bit of a laugh. Locked rear wheels up with the handbrake but at least my AWD system is still intact.

Those steel banded clips for the boots, what a joy to remove!. Ended up cutting them off. A pair of stainless hose clamps going back on!.

Daughter had a good chat with the mechanics, they were very impressed with what she's been doing with our cars.

She pointed out we have a matching colour trolley jack!.

For how long its been stood only 2 split rack boots is amazing really.

fabulous looking car , and great that you and your daughter are so close , hope she keeps up the interest , think a knee pad might be of some help though I find gravel on the drive crucifies my knees these days.

We have the kneeling mats, yes my knees are not the best either!.

All the mechanics came over for a look while it was on the ramps, they were very interested in all the mods.

The owner was into his Japanese imports as well (had a JDM MR2 Turbo).

Was quite surprised how much interest it had as to them it's just another car through the doors.

It's still lovely to drive, we were loafing around in Tour mode. Forgot what a great car it is to be honest.

They are a complete money pit though if you are not prepared to work on them yourself.

Thank you, looking forward to me and my daughter going for a proper drive when it's back together and re-tested.

That reminds me.. I've got one of these,
TT manual in red..
Came to me as a silly high hp need-for-speed thing. Stripped it out and put 350mm brakes on it and had a good bit of fun with it on the track. Bit big and heavy really but with the 4wd and the 4w steering it would beat most of the gti's on a wet surface!
Last airfield track round here must have closed 5yrs+ ago and I've not done anything with it since..

The fancy electronic suspension is actually only firmness of the dampers. Same system as mistubishi fitted to the Shogun although that had the suspension travel to appreciate the difference.
I fitted a set of tein coilovers, height adjustable and actually have the same sort of thing for electric control but a more advanced controller module that allows individual changes on each corner. Far superior to the 40yr old factory design so if yours ever need replacing I'd just swap the hole lot out for aftermarket
