yes a 2 lb hammer and 3 good batts on the side of the-valve and it will fall out, never fails

Rope around the bottle with a long piece of wood like a tourniquet to stop the bottle turning & a damn great big pair of Stilsons

I had to fooker in a vice and a big spanner with a scaffie bar on it the spanner snapped!

You are turning it anticlockwise? They're an ordinary right hand thread, unlike the left hand thread where the regulator screws in.

Take a 4lb hammer and a man sized punch and hammer at the threaded part where the regulator screws in to get it to turn, it will go!
Leverage can be hard to apply as you're finding, but a heavy hammer used correctly works.

I've always managed to get them off with a big pair of 3 foot Stillsons but I have to cut the handle / guard off first to get access.

The stove I made where I wanted to leave the handle on, I made a deep socket out of some RHS which fitted after knocking the top off the valve with a chisel.
