However I'm not sure I want to give £40 for a photocopy, but it might be cheaper that buying blades.

You had a good link to a French sure with hundreds of manuals on - could it be there?

Also beautiful machines on that Velox page. Love the sight of filled and painted cast iron, however much of a pain it is to apply!

By including 'leadscrew' in your search, you might be restricting yourself unnecessarily. If it is not for accurate motion control, a lesser precision ACME threaded rod/studding would do and sources should be a little easier to find.

They tell me that they can only do metric lead screws. There must surely be someone in Europe that can do imperial, to avoid the cost of transatlantic shipping?

There must be people making them but it’s down to finding them.

This lockdown has spurred me into action.

Yesterday night and today I’ve been giving the main body castings a skim of filler, nothing too fancy, just enough to fill the pits in the iron.

Upon inspection, some components have very sound original paint with just a few scratches so I plan on just overpainting on them, this will save precious time and money (and primer, which I’ve run out of and can’t buy at the moment!)

I did some work on the body, then with an uncharacteristic burst of Herculean strength managed to get it onto the legs. This will go into paint tomorrow along with a few other bits. Some bare steel needs cleaning, a lot of the red needs touching up after I oversprayed the filler primer.

Some paint on, and we’ve even got some sun! I need to get some new sheetmetal cut to size once this nonsense is over.

Work can now start on the bow arm and the saw frame. I have the body and two pulleys in paint, but they need the other sides doing yet. The eccentric for the ram needs painting, as does the saw linkage to the main pulley.

Worst discovery yet is a box of unknown bolts. I can’t quite remember how some of this machine goes back together. This isn’t good!

The arm is in primer, this will give the filler something to grip to, so a fair way off on this part.

I have the saw frame in primer too, and I had a play with the box of bits and worked out how the blade tensioning mechanism (if you can call it that) works. Very simple!

Lastly I have a few bits which need a freshen up before they go back on the machine, these are the eccentric ring for the hydraulic pump, the end casting for the vice, and the linkage from the saw frame to the pulley.

There’s not much to this machine and it’s a nice change from having worked on the lathe to working on this, the precision is greatly reduced and I can relax a little!

if you squint your eyes it looks good! It’s quite horrible up close but this isn’t a Hardinge or a Monarch so she’ll be right

More bits in paint - the other side of the big drive pulley and the other side of the linkage. The heater working hard as usual...

I put the hydraulic cylinder back in - it’s impossible to get it in once the pulley is in. Underneath mine there is a piece of tin which channels off oil from dripping onto the belts and into the middle of the base.

I had somehow managed to lose the washer for the threaded end of this pin, so I headed to my stash and found a good sized one and opened it out a bit on the lathe. Honestly how did I ever get by without it... the pic shows nice progress, lovely Denbigh drill in the background there

A few more pics, blade tensioning mechanism all cleaned and oiled, and the gib adjustment screws are free from being caked in paint... not much adjustment has happened for a while it seems!

Art shots are the order of the day here!

This was fiddly work and almost as difficult to photograph as it was to get my fingers in there - split pins, nightmare. Still, the linkage is back on the pulley and it spins up nicely.

Next up is going to be the filler for the arm and filling the cylinder with oil again.
