Question about feather edge boarding...?

Mine wasn't pressure treated (or treated at all) - the plan from the start was to let it's own oils look after it for a few years then creosote, which I'll apply this year.

Pretty sure it's spruce.

Price wise, I had it cut into 6' lengths to suit my modular design and I'm sure it was well under £2 per length (about 90p or so per metre rings a bell).

I used 6" 1.8m boards for fencing. Again as I made panels to suit too. Think I got them for 90p each ex vat. Pressure treated. From Jewsons.
Will see how they fare in the summer when the weather warms up but doubt I'm gonna see much movement

I bought the timber from B&Q - 100mm wide and 12mm at thickest tapering to about 6mm. It was so wet when the screws tightened it was sqeezing water out.

One of the reasons I don't buy timber from the big shed places unless I really have to!

Always use the local timber merchant & have a deal with them.

I did a fence with stuff from jewson and within a year it looked like a roman blind. It was held in place by the fixings, but warped out between.

The only timber I'll use from any multi merchant nowadays is cls - anything else I use a local timber yard, or for special stuff (or large quantities) I go t'mill.

Went up in Feb. No sign of any moment as yet and doesn't look like they will. Problem with suppliers like that is the stocks always being sourced from different suppliers to save pennies. I won this time around. Had used some recently for a contractor so knew it was good.
The long lengths of feathered I've had from Jewsons in the past was awful in comparison.
These boards are as good as what I can source from my local saw mill and Cost me a lot less.

I only visit the saw mill for hardwoods decent softwood and veneered ply. Cls c16 etc comes from the big chains.

Unfortunately the saw mills around here mark the above up far too much to be viable.
