Quick release bolts

I would like to try and find some quick release (cam action or suitably coarse threaded) bolts to attach a drill press vise to the bed on my drill press.

I'm looking for something I can fit to mount tha two together that won't require getting spanners out every time I need to recentre a piece under the chuck.

Something like the levers on the Fobco drill press itself used for adjusting it would be ideal.

I've googled but maybe I am not searching for the right terms as I can't find what I'm looking for. Any pointers?

Well normally on a drill press vice there are holes for the nuts and bolts on the vice to secure it in place on the drill work surface......these clamps just replace those bolts ie you thread em through the vice holes and drill worksurface,tighten em up a bit till the handle can lock the vice down without too much pressure.

Ahh. Right.. So releasing them will allow you to "move" the vice, but not remove it? In my case, I would like a way of attaching/removing a vice quickly and easily.

Could use t bolts in the slots and then some wing nuts to tighten the vise down.

I don't know about anyone else's vice but my bolt holes have a U slot on the vice base.......

My vice looks similair to this with open securing fix and the above clamps are ideal for this type of vice.

Assuming your drill press bed has t-slots in it, then you could maybe fit a couple of indexed clamping handles with t-bolts to your vice. Loosen off the handles and slide the t-bolts out of the slots to remove the vice. Reverse to fit and fix in position.

I've tried Bicycle skewers as hold downs on my drill press with mixed success. Finding that they are now where near strong enough when a holesaw grabs.

I find these Clarke CVC6 & CVC9 adjustable locking plier type table clamps to be almost indispensable, and a lot more reliable than the usual commercially available "industrial" welding jig clamps. .... .... ..... and due to exceptional poor service from numpties, they are also the only thing I will buy from Norwich Machinemart theses days!

I don't know if you have realised but the op is asking to hold down his vice,I don't think those grips will hold down the vice?looks fine holding a piece of angle iron and such but a vice and whatever is being worked on in the vice.

Yes, I actually hold down my drill vice with them.... absolutely no problem at all even when hole sawing up to 100mm dia. The jaws on the CV6 open up enough to clamp down pieces of 45mm thick, and I often use them to hold pieces down on a scrap of plywood or sterling board of around 18 mm thick

Certainly cheaper.. But £6.99 minimum shipping, so a fair bit more than MM.

I was thinking that there must be something that allows a 180 degree turn to securely fasten the vice to the bed. I don't think that a normal push bike quick release will work - they don't have enough clamping force in my experience.

In order to make them easily removeable you could adapt bicycle clamps by replacing the bolt with either a strong J or L bolt or by making a T shaped bolt made by cutting two pieces of high tensile studding and welding one across the top of the other

When the clamp is released you could turn the bolt in line with the slots in your drill press and lift the whole assembly out
