Great days!
We did the Donisthorpe 24 hour race a couple of times, our battery cooling system caused a big stir with the works teams (a butcherd mini fridge we called Coolius Maximus) we used 1400 Sanyo cells instead of everyone else's 1700's as they could take a right hammering without dropping off. We had Robin Schumacher sniffing round our pit table
We did well but the fact most of us were drunk probably didn't help although we were leading until hour 13 when the team Schumacher boys got a very loud bollocking from the boss to get their fingers out

Scanning some pics and found these of indoor RC car racing in the late 70's.

Pretty sure the first piccie was more of an outdoor track car - fuel tank cap, cylinder head heat sink and air fliter sort of give it away . . .

As for the rest - silicon stippled tyres - what fun. Having to wash the floor to get the dust off.

I fell across this picture today rummaging for a work related photo - taken relatively recently with a long-lived mug - YRCMCRC Winternationals at Halifax Leisure centre - which I think is now shut.

I bought Top CAT rear suspension components to get rid of the roll induced rear steer - and then they released the Pro-CAT that used Top Cat bits to remove the roll induced rear steer

That's got 30 year odd year old original belts in - they still work fine.

If he went to Brandhall community hall on Friday evenings he may well have been.

I remember watching him race at the Wembley model engineers exhibition and was in awe of his driving skills.

That’s what we’ve got - couple cars and couple buggy things. And a ton of spare parts of the bits that break. They haven’t been played with in a while. Must get it on eBay to pay for some of their current activities !

The FTX is low cost and highly modifiable. I was planning on machining out all the slop in the suspension to see if it improves handling. But other hobbies got in the way.
