Ratchet Straps..

You can get a lot more pull than that.
I pulled a steel framed barn square with a pair of ratchets the other day
Stuck a 6 ft steel bar in the handle for leverage and hung 15st off it.
Had to use a crow bar toget it undone and made one hell off a bang when the tension was released. But held it quite happily

I think that might be considered as 'pushing the limits' of the kit... I get a feeling, looking at kit, that the limits are are a lot lower now. One of the ratchet winches distorted and the pawl was half off the teeth. It was well under the rated load.
The idea of using a long lever to 'help' crank up the load is sort of ignoring safe operating practice. You might get lucky, but likely not if you continue.

If a 5t ratchet is distorting under normal load it is either slightly bent usually from being run over or is being tensioned at a slight angle.
Just think when tensions them as a load restraint on a trailer that is only a small fraction of the tension the load can create.
When the breaks are applied and the load tries to shift forward it can easily increase the strain tenfold and the straps are designed to deal with this. Whilst they went with a bang when released I've had them under more tension as I've had to cut straps off as you couldn't release them after a load has unexpectedly shifted

Bowline and Figure 8 knot both give 75% efficiency.

Is that true of straps? I know the figure is very similar for normal rope when used in climbing.

Flypress wouldn‘t touch it with it being such thick wall tube and presumably made out of something unbendy.

Seems a reputable enough source. Figure 8 in rope and webbing give a reduction of around the same, +/- a few %

Couldn't find one quickly for 50mm webbing as per ratchet straps
