definately some better 6013 rods than others for vertical up,
when i was at collage doing welding half the week, i was working at a shipyard the rest of the time,
I couldnt for the life of me do a decent vert up at collage, but at work was able to do a pretty decent one!
Both were lincoln 6013 rods, but at work we used Pantafix at 30 odd quid a box, and at collage it was likely just the cheapest ones, massive difference lump 6013 are a great


you should try VERTI -LUMP 6013
they were used a lot on macbraynes
ferry boats the seagulls used the ripples as stepladders

Sooo...today new project and training on my vertical ups....
This time i used a different rod...also 6013 Böhler fox yellow....also called böhler sh yellow rb.

Now see yourself the difference:

Left bead I used phönix blau....also 6013...but an RC
On the right i used the RB....only had slag inclusion on restart....my fault...I started above the bead with long arc and came down, instaed of starting on end crater...
The next pic I used the end crater as restart point....

I feel very comfortable with that RB electrode....not much slag and very thin slag
6013 is not 6013...huge differences....
Now please comment....

If you can do vertical welding with a 6013, I take my hat off to you.

you certainly are right about not every 6013 is created equal!! some cheaper ones make it really hard to do a good vertical up!
7018 on the other hand, i dont think i have ever had a rubbish type!
