The way i interpret your reply is youre purposely pouring salt through the gaps in question i didnt think i had to be so specific in its terms.Loads, and even more if you go up to a 200 (which should run easily off a 13A supply if you don't turn it all the way up, especially if inverter) - admittedly, a lot of them are well under £900 so don't exactly fit the question
They seem to be almost much of a muchness too, so the price difference is literally down to who you choose to buy from and how they decide to charge.
I will bear this in mind and post questions in very specific terms or just plain stop asking.
Someone give me an example of a competitive welder (R-tech161) for £900 that can be bought within the UK.

There are a lot that can be bought from your sofa (which I count as buying in the uk) for much less than £900, but whether they'd fit within your definition of 'competitive' I don't know.
There's a good few (i.e. parweld) that you can go to a physical shop and buy for less or about the same depending on model.
My other reply wasn't intended to be argumentative, more pedantic in that you specified 'available for £900', not '£900 or less', nor 'approximately £900'.
I always find it intriguing that no other brand appears to evoke the same evangelical attitude though, like I wouldn't understand because I haven't been initiated into the cult of rtech and that if anything about them is ever questioned then suddenly a whole bunch of blue panties get twisted up - seriously, anyone would think I'd just called your ginger stepchild ugly or something
I've just ordered an oxford and if you say anything bad about them then there will be trouble....

I went to a Parweld shop and their basic Tig at the time was quite a bit over £1000 if i bought a pedal, and it didnt do MMA, which is why i went for an R-tech.It just didnt seem like i was spoiled for choice at the time i was looking for a Tig. Im not some sort of R-tech fanatic i just want to understand the direct competition and specific facts of the matter. Like a lot of goods from the Far East it's likely to be supplied through the euro-zone though, like for example all the Japanese camera gear - their European distribution facility prices euros through to the £, so any change in that affects UK street prices. RTech's product is unlikely to be shipped direct from the PRoCThe price hike because of brexit doesn't really wash as the RTech welders are Chinese made not from Europe!

Ah I thought the R-tech was a Mig/dc tig we were talking about in the thread.
The Rtech is £1050 and 160amps. There's a few about that price but around the 200amps rating.

Are you entirely sure it didn't do mma/stick ? I have yet to see a tig plant that did not do stick.

I cant remember what machine the shop owner was trying to sell me. I cant remember any mention of it being capable of MMA, maybe he was a poor salesman. I cant remember MMA being in the spec when i looked it up online either. On reflection it probably did, it just wasnt made clear to me.I made it clear i wanted an AC machine and can remember not being impressed with what i was shown, so got an R-tech

That's over-complicating the situation. The simple but unexciting fact is that almost all manufacturing in the Far East is priced in dollars and the pound is currently doing as badly against the dollar as it is against the euro. That's a separate discussion as to which port in the EU the goods land in - the price will stay in US$ and that's what the importer (r-tech or whomever) pays.
But that importer has to spend more £££ to buy the amount of $$$ that he's shelling out, compared to what these dollars would have cost him a year ago. Hence the price hike.

- no spool gun connection
- Rtech comes with a reg. amazon one comes with a stick holder
- the width as pointed out previously is the same as the 180 not the 250
Short of a close examination of the internals it's difficult to say, but certainly the width and weight point to the lower end.
The 12 customers would worry me too!

totally agree skotl , only wanted to know if anybody knew anything about the machine I found and if they were basically the same as short of cash and need do downsize and thought a mig , stick machine would be a good solution , I NEVER intended to slate retch in anyway as they seem a good company with good products and have a great reputation from what I know and hey they are a business with staff and overheads not some vast warehouse with just a email address . all suppliers have to make a living as they don't do what they do for the fun of it .
