Realised welding would be the most time consuming thing to learn and started out with arc just because it was cheap and simple. I'm still happy I've done enough to get a handle on the process and think it is a handy skill to have.
Arc's cheap and simple and it's great for steel over 3mm. It can be really useful around the garden and garage. It gets harder very quickly as the steel gets thinner than 3mm. If you can arc weld, I think it's easier to pick up MIG.
