Recommend me a Cable Tie Gun

Taiwanese tools are usually a step up in quality than Chinese, and a long long way from where they were thirty years ago, if that's what is worrying you. Almost every quality ratcheting wrench in the world irrespective of brand (with a couple of exceptions) has the mechanism made in Taiwan, for example.

Well, it could be that times have changed. Going back quite a few years, the Taiwanese made some of the worst stuff I've ever encountered.

A point I made the other day was that the Chinese can make quality (as per their Moon-lander) but also make crap, and I guess that may well be true of Taiwanese. Made by Molex and supplied by RS, and neither their cheapest nor their most expensive, it should get me through the next ten years

Had a cheap CPC plastic gun for years, we buy tie wraps by the 1000 albeit only 3 and 5mm with but has been faultless, it is a blue one with metal jaw.

Well, it could be that times have changed. Going back quite a few years, the Taiwanese made some of the worst stuff I've ever encountered.

Times changed a lot - I know what you mean, Made in Taiwan used to be the stamp of low quality but that was a long time ago.

They have really pushed themselves as a leader in global manufacturing and have tended to focus on the high tech industries.
They have dominated the global chip manufacturing sector for yonks and sunk some very serious money into developing their technology and engineering industry.

Traditionally while China has tended to go for copying an existing product for the lowest possible production cost, Taiwan has tried to go for higher quality and technological innovation and invention.
Of course that is not always the case, and China is now focusing more on pursuing those markets and leaving low cost production to other countries, as you say they are very capable of making quality products.

Tool-wise Taiwan companies tend to be OEM for a lot of well known brands, and usually the mid or higher end ones, as their production costs are usually more than China.
Although there are some quality tools coming out of China, there tends to be a lot more variance in quality, and a lot of fakes and copying or ghost shift manufacturing going on - so it is difficult to know what you are getting.

I wouldn't be concerned over buying Taiwanese at all - while I'm sure they do still produce some rubbish you have to actively look for it.
When I'm buying tools, I actually seek out those "Made in Taiwan" in preference as a sign of some quality assurance over the many generic Chinese clone alternatives.

Some of the Taiwanese stuff is so good it is almost up there with the Japanese, and fit and finish impeccable, often beating European and US.
I suppose what I'm saying is, don't limit your tool buying options based on the reputation from decades ago - it isn't what it was, and hasn't been for ages.
I’m sure manufacturing quality won’t be a problem for a cable tie gun, it will be more down to which design works best.

The hobby-grade one which I have (no name on it, had it a long time and it was probably very cheap) doesn't grip the ties very well, they slip and they don't get cut. I rarely use it on anything bigger than 5mm.

Well, as the Taiwanese Molex is currently in the one in the crosshairs, I'll likely get the chance to re-assess Taiwan produce.

While I do have a mig welder, I feel more satisfied creatively when I'm using my glue gun and my cable tie gun .
