Recommended Air Die Grinder

I have a lot of trouble dressing down the welds in restricted areas on my car project. I have used a Dremmel with a grinding stone or sanding cylinder in the past but it takes ages. I then got a power file - much, much better - but will be too big to go under the obstructions in the boot where the next holes are.

How much of an improvement would an electric die grinder be over a power file or Dremmel? Not actually that many cheap ones around but I might get one if they actually remove the material quickly.

I am undecided between a Die Grinder and a Cut Off Tool and unless you can do cutting I may need both? Would be nice to have the option.

I am up in Bristol at the mo and may be able to pop into a Machine Mart or Tool Station.
Spotted this Clarke Pro Kit which contains both a Die Grinder and a Cut Off Tool, Grinding Stones and 12 Cut Off Discs, its £57.59 but looks well made?
The manual says CFM is 5 average 16 at Max load, but will by 2.5HP run these or would I be Pi**ing in the wind?

I know you can fit Carbide Burrs to a Die Grinder for metal removal but can you fit a cutting disc?

If your looking for good equipment those 2 places are the last I would look !!!

You're no doubt correct, Langy, but the Dremmel has proved to be a really handy bit of kit for all sorts of stuff, both on the car and craft stuff.

What we need is for Aldi to do an electric die grinder for £20.

bought one of these they seem quite good, they also do a long pattern extended nose one, handy for getting better grip or doing down inside tubes or hard to get places if that also seems ok
they are rubber covered to stop vib also hands dont get as cold when using them

Was using two of mine today my small compressor kept up ok the bgs one had a lot more power than my small snap on one, and both seemed to use about same amount of air.

if your getting an electric die grinder your better off getting one with a long nose on it for getting in to corners or tight spaces using a carbide burr

I would agree with the above. I only buy long nosed electric die grinders.

Definitely but be aware don't be tempted to have a tungsten burr out of the collet to far as when you switch it on it will bend immediately and it will be hard to keep hold of

Its the same as any good tool Marlin, things seem fine until you use the proper thing, only then do you realise how poor the previous one was !!!
I've had a Dremel and it couldn't be compared to a decent air or electric die grinder.

i have both and they get used a lot , each has there use so u cant compare one against the other , its maybe u have no use for verry small items to be cut or ground with limited access

If you're not in a rush, I've found the Aldi air tools are pretty good for those on a low budget. The air cut-off tools usually start at £9.99 but if there's slow-moving stock it doesn't take long for them to become £4.99, and with a three-year guarantee that's hard to beat. I haven't seen a die grinder in there for a while, which is a pity because I dropped mine and it broke around the air intake where the adapter hit the ground first, so I had to replace it with one from an autojumble. One on at the NEC this weekend, though it can be a gamble buying stuff from somewhere you won't be able to take it back. If you're looking there maybe stick to suppliers who've been around for a while - AB Tools spring to mind but I'm sure there are others I'll recognise when I get there. A dremel can be handy, but takes a long time to grind down MIG weld beads, especially when you compare it to a die grinder. Can be good for finishing off, though, and when you can't get even the die grinder in place. Or a blaster and suitable protection / media retention methods such as taping a big plastic bag around the area.
