No it won’t @dan.taylor.1 , dimmers chop the half wave, same a drill controllers. With the motor shown the speed is fixed to the Hz. Trouble is, single phase squirrel cage motors (the one shown) need capacitors to create the phase shift to start. An inverter would just not be allowed to soft start.Being single phase it isn't as simple as stick a vfd on like a 3phase motor, though if you can get a 1p in 1p out then worth a try, a HD dimmer type switch might work but it'll get hot
I bought a 3 ph motor of that size, brand new on eBay for £55. The guy had 90 of them if I recall.
I would sell the SP motor, buy a 3p and an inverter. Sorry.
Working out the vfd controls is a piece of cake compared to what you want to do with that SP motor...that is the lst resort at the minute to buy a 3ph, i have just made this up for this motor and they want it slower now. i usually use VFD`s but there is still the working out how to run a VFD with the foot control and safety switch.
one of tings that will be good for thos is the brake control / brake speed.Working out the vfd controls is a piece of cake compared to what you want to do with that SP motor...
I have one of these the AT2 vfd that is designed for the purpose of controlling 1ph motors.

No that is an AT1 you need the AT2@My Old Landy
Does that mean this will control the speed of a single phase motor?

The wiring diagram I posted says you can use it with or without a capacitor. I have a motor I will try it over the weekend and let you know.OK, this is going the way it has on otehr threads, i use inverters on my lathe and mill. one being an AT4 and one an AT2
BUT. i have been told that i cant use one for my needs here as it will not work.
So it will @My Old Landy ?
