I need to find out myself how to dispose of it as i have some parts that need rust removal. I don't want the environmental health lot on my case.

I spoke to somebody at the makers of DeoxyC a miracle rust remover that seems to be repacked citric acid and was told the used fluid is safe to drink.
it is a hideous green colour that Kawasaki owners might like, but I did not try it.
On that list Citric acid and Iron oxide are considered safe, rust is iron oxide and I would have thought the same of mill scale.
Mild steel is iron and carbon with perhaps a bit of stuff added to the mix, and stuff is ok, I have never seen that on any list.

I didn't read the list lower down, that's says iron oxide and citric acid is safe to sewer, but not brightly coloured solutions

But in the first list it says rust remover is hazerdous waste?

so it appears that using citric for removing mill scale is safe to depose of down the drain, but if its used for rust removal not so clear cut and contradictory?

I cant see where heavy metals would come in. We are talking rusty steel.
maybe just quietly make your family drink it.

Rust Remover is a completely different product to Citric Acid Solution.

A Rust Remover, is considered to be sometihng along the lines of Krust, Fertan and Jenolite.
