repair or replace output valve on my compresser

got a mechine mart special and since i had it i have had problems ajusting the pressure to the tool im using

below are pics of the unit that i took apart looks like most of it is brass and the thread is gone half the way down the screw part

the plastic knob on the top the fins in side the cap are rounded off so even if the screw part is working if using the cap it will not turn the screw part

a few questions is it poss to get this up and running again just using a new threaded bolt ?
there any reason why not eg if using steel bolt is there a reason for the brass safety ?
and then grind the head of the bolt so the it fits in the red knob with a bit of playing around


or buy new what sort of price for new one probably it will be better quality or are they all most the same sont want to spend loads as its not used that much

I like your terminology, output valve , its a pressure regulator, id go for a new one those that come with the small compressors quite often restrict the cfm supplied to the tools

You can get them with a built in water filter if you don't already have one and you ideally want de enter sized connection not one with a quater inch bore

The pipe work between the 2 seam quite small but I don't think I can realy change that as the fitment coming in to the pressure reg is quite small as well

Any idea what size these would be I assume not a 6 or 8 10 fitment

As you're not changing anything else that should do you ok looks very similar to what you have now

or this fit but its got an air filter on the bottem but this will i dont think fit if i used this can it be slanted at a 45 angle

Better quality named brands usually have a better design especially when it comes to air tools, the thread size will probably be 3/8

review of the cheap valves any one used these thay seam to restrict the flow of air for air tool

i manly use my compresser to run 1/2 inch inpact gum prob dont work at top capacty but works as well as i need it but worried if i change for one of these cheap ones it will reduce the pressure

this is looking a better bet you think just remove what i need the valve seams to be higher rated and got a spare swtich as well

unless the screwfix tool station unit can be used on an angle ?

Most people run air tools direct off the tank the air line creates the 'regulator' as such because it and the QR COUPLERS naturally limits the pressure and free air flow.
but if you start with it regulated it will vastly reduce flow and ultimately reduce the pressure at the end off the air line-------and the effectiveness of the tool is being used .
