Repair weld cast iron thing

As others said, it will weld and also add a thick steel plate underneath to spread the loads. I use special cast iron electrodes from oerlikon but as you might know- not every cast is good metal and might not fuse properly ! It’s salvageable !

We have one of the press-n-snap tools at work, great bit of kit but well pricey.

Yes, too much for me. They hire it for a reasonable price and I nearly went that route but my son bought this for my birthday so I'm doubly ****** off - a day's work endured at Maccy's down the pan.

No idea. So you can put a sharp pencil in them and draw bad circles? Or maybe attach it to a bench if you want to do that. The instructions do not give any guidance there, certainly not mandating bench mounting it so it doesn't break.

Agreed, but that should not mean it cannot be mounted properly (with support) on a temporary basis?

I have several items, mounted on bases, which are then held remporarily by either a bench vise or one of my workmates. It’s just a matter of common sense, surely - particularly to avoid over-stressing pieces of kit such as this?

The reply to my earlier post, by the OP, tells me something…

I did note that the holes in the base were clearly cleaned up with a flat face, machined as a land for fixing screws.

Fair point, but the manner in which it works, it shouldn't have stressed itself to the point of cracking, even unmounted. Not unless he was being apelike with it.

Update. Thanks to Doubleboost . And having been enlightened by you lot more than the instructions, I've put it on a baulk of mahoganish timber, reclaimed from a window frame.
