Check out Evolution Storm windows.

Was waiting at a customers house and idly looking at the sash windows and how good a condition they were, and then fell in that they were plastic. Best I have ever seen.

If going wood Id suggest accoya windows. We have a local guy who does them and they are superb, regret not having them here.

+1 for accoya if you have to go with timber. It's radiata pine that's treated with acetic acid. I've not used it personally but used the mdf version (tricoya) for facias I don't ever want to have to replace again. All fixings want to be stainless steel due to the acetic acid.
