Replacing Drain cock ... can you change the angle a fitting locks up by grinding down the thread

I have a similar 1/2” PCL one, but that drains the filtered air, not the tank.

I have auto drain on the combined air filter regulator as well.

I Just ordered one, yes very helpful chap.
Seems ideal because its NC when the power is cut.
So I can turn it on when I use the compressor and press test as I pack up. Giving the tank a final mini drain, and turn it off at the mains.

Only question is should one actually drain the tank “completely” once the job is completed. Or is it OK to leave, after a final little (10 second purge), i.e. having effectively bled the tank frequently during use?

IMO (this could be contentious!), no, never drain it. Increased duty cycles (fatigue),increased moisture ingress... Possibly some other reasons I haven't thought of.

I did say, in my opinion!

I leave mine full, I don't want to waste the electricity used. I don't leave it on autostart though, it doesn't get used enough.

Looking at your picture, is your tank’s drain tap 3/8” BSP.? Only asked as that reducer looks like it.
I was going to take mine from 3/8” to 1/4”. But now going to use your auto drain, which is 1/2” , which hangs on the pipe.
IYO would 3/8” support this valve better?

what sealant did you use ?
I know my Loctite 577 reacts well with steel and stainless steel but not sure about Brass, assuming that block and drain cock is brass?

what is that knurled cap on the drain cock for?

I think I had to go up a size, so that makes sense.

I used PTFE liquid from toolstation/Screwfix no idea what brand, but I'm in the workshop tomorrow, so I'll take a photo.

The knurled knob access a gauze filter in the fitting.

I do worry about the weight hanging on the thread, so I'll make up a rest for the drain, one of these years. Probably after I hook up the drain away hoses.

It'll be fine - if you see what pipework will take in an industrial environment, you will not be concerend about one of those hanging from a 1/2" nipple.

Sometimes, there's just no need to over-think things.
