Hi folks thanks for your help ive managed to weld them today with some
3.2mm esab 6013 rods. its the bosses that are welded into the excavator
bucket that ive burnt out and rewelded new ones in place then the 60mm pins go throught them and the dipper cheers phil

ocean, Hi; I'm a little Off Topic , But in another thred I Trying to find Info. on a MOSA welder? How are they for Welding in general ? I hear they have a real smooth arc? I also understand they are very Loud on the ears !!

Hi norm they are noisy and you seem to get a lot of splatter my lorch is a far
smother arc i personaly dont rate them but they are cheap cheers ocean

Ocean, Thanks; What rods are you running on the MOSA or Lorch ( never heard of a Lorch) ?? 6013's are what we call the Farmers Rod, for useing on Poor Fit-up's ! I Need a DC. Machine to run E-7018 rods, I have an AC. machine Lincoln welder-generator ( built in 1968 ) to run 7018AC. rods & they are junk, garbage, Rubbish, what ever term you choose !!

Hey VW - to be honest mate, i'd never have thought of this as an issue if it hadn't been for watching technicAl getting totally slated over on UKWelder for suggesting that Snowcat should use stainless rods on a bucket repair. We live and learn!

Cheers DRAINS,I guess nothing is unbreakable as TINO has pointed out,I never thought of having to cut/burn out at a later stage.Every day is a school day.:

Oceans, It is not a good idea to weld the bushing into place, there of a bearing hardness and tempered, it makes the extremely prone to cracking, and also and welding to keep them in place is often temporary sometimes only hours as the bushing simply HAZ cracks.....

The new parts are made to be an interference shrinkage fit S6 at the lowest, If the holes have become oval-ed then the option is to machine a whole new boss for the dipper arm end cut and weld in, or weld the bore then in line bore, Iv always shrunk fitted the new parts, as Iv said sometimes giving 10tho of interferance.......

I also recommend the machine then runs a Q hitch, as its careless drivers who don't like greasy hands when changing the pins that causes the problem..

Iv years of experience in this field, and only advise, this IMHO is the only way to do the job correctly.......

The old ones were welded into place and they were not an interference fit
infact very loose hope they stay in place and dont crack but cheers for your

Chances are they've been changed before, I think there pretty much interference on most machines, If they held once welded there probably hold again, I normally do an ask to the dealer if I'm not sure.......even the stores can pull you up a parts list which will show the fitting of something.......

I wasn't knocking your work BTW, I just like to offer the text book way if I'm doing a job, even if the Governor says "just weld it mate" your then covered if it doesn't work
