An old metal shaper could do double duty as a wood splitter if modified, and the ram could be adjusted to suit the length of the logs. I recall seeing a video somewhere of a modified shaper being used to bend steel bars, so splitting wood should be easy. Food for thought ?

These kinetic splitters look good but would the flywheels need to be really heavy to get momentum also where would I find a flywheel

Crank and rod from any engine should do, and it`ll have a flywheel bolted to it as well
