Respirator & glasses = NO GOOD!

I bought one of these:

Resp-O-Rator - Duxterity LLC

Not because I am bearded, but because an ordinary mask gets in the way of my glasses and mists them up with leakage.
Touch of ingenuity could connect it to a forced air system.

Why not just buy an army surplus gas mask ?
Those are made to live in.

Re my post in another thread. If you keep the air feed up to a reasonable level, the odd leak doesn't matter, as it 'out' not 'in'.
But, since your usage is occasional, the Resp-O-Rater does an OK job. To be honest, I weld quite a lot of Mig at lowish amp levels and don't bother too much with a air mask. Stick welding has some objectionable fumes, so more careful now. I did a LOT of that, building trailers 50 yrs ago, with just a passing breeze to clear the noxious gasses out.

Ahh, thanks Gaz! That's great to know. Not expensive either. Replacement filters are no more expensive than the ones for the 3M mask. It's a done deal! Bought a small-med one!

i may smoke but i have a strong taste and smell im also a full time glasses wearer so need something thats stops the steaming up and dosnt interfere with the glasses

ive used the mask on a few aplications form using under a welding helmet and it works fine under that with no interference

i cant taste the metal when grinding steel sheet or when using with the plasma cutter normally i do ( note in confined spaces wear the mask for longer otherwise you will get the dust into your lungs )

as goes for dust it works really well and because its low profile i tend to prefer it

theres no steam up on the glasses but i had to pick small-medium i couldnt buy it from screwfix as they dont stock it only a medium one that i dont want

its through @optima21 that i found the right mask for me

Hey everyone,
I am a spectacled (and short-bearded) welder and I find that my 3M 7500-series respirator doesn't create a perfect seal. Around my nose there is often the tell-tale signs of an air leak in the form of small black marks of ultrafine grinding particles.
I have long noticed this and assumed I needed to tighten the mask more frequently, but only just worked out that it's because the nose pads want to sit exactly where the top of the mask needs to sit.

Does anyone know of another solution? I have a 3M SpeedGlas helmet, but can't really justify the cost of upgrading to the forced-air version since I only really weld a couple times a month.

Best solution is probably a full face respirator like 3m 6800 . Tech sheets for all respirators say to be clean shaven where the seal sits.

With out reading all the posts, looks like you have a few options, as mentioned, you need to be clean shaven for filter masks to work, which are acceptable for up to an hours welding a day by the HSE guidelines, or use an air fed, or get extraction set up, for how little welding you are doing, personally I would not be concerned, but thats each individuals choice and you want to take care of your self obviously,

Ah I see. I use a moldex compact respirator under my welding mask along with safety specs without issue. If your existing glasses frame won't work at all with a respirator around the nose seal area then you might need to look at getting some prescription safety glasses which will work together with the respirator.
