It’s an economical way of setting them, and as I don’t use them often it’s not too much of a faff.

Definitely a horse for course type of tool the Gesipa squeeze ones OK for alloy to M6 any thing bigger no, have done M5 steel with them but only a few and I do not think they would survive

I made a few setting tools for where the plier type one wouldn't fit.

Might have to make one for some Stainless rivenuts.

With the stainless ones. Lube everything. I put a few in over a year and they’re a bugger to do.

They love to gall up on you so you can’t get the tool out.

Take some squeezing as well, the bigger ones.

Fine pitch threads on the setting bolts would have been better. High tensile for the insert ends

In my experiments with these, using the same sized thread to pull the rivnut, as the rivnut, kills the setting threads pretty quickly. Especially the smaller threads. Hence, I've used a size or three bigger for the setting tool. If just doing a few, you can get away with it, or replace the setting bolt/nut once there is wear.

Then tried cutting a narrower thread onto the end of the bigger bolts. But the cut threads don't hold up so well as rolled ones. So welded on smaller bolts to the bigger bolts.

Think it depends on what the application is, I've had a nightmare with rivnuts on race cars where someones put them into the chassis and they've then started spinning in the chassis tube and you have to rip them out. I try to use the steel ones now and once they're in put a tiny dab of TIG weld on the sides so that they'll never spin.

This is my Dafra one. Lovely bit of kit and the ratchet type you can easily set the rivnuts. Gone up since I bought mine but really good.

Just had a bit of a do with stainless rivenuts and they've knackered my tool I've had for years (shame as I get attached to things!).

Bought a new setting tool and decided to ban stainless rivenuts, aluminium or mild steel only now..

Looks like it will do my light duty work ok.

I've bought another hand held trigger type set as well to replace the broken ones.

I have just bought the Preciva kit (£45) from Amazon. Looks OK but have not tested it yet. It has to be better than my supposed one hand version.
