I can’t see a road tow and blasting set up being being acceptable in anything other than a farm location, the noise and dust cloud would have a council officer at your door within minutes.

Yes I agree. I think I’d get away with a small cabinet and 2 interlinked 3hp compressors only run occasionally, and with good dust extraction… unless I get a place in the sticks.

Hmm, they don't have days off here, will attend any time, they're a very conscientious lot and have closed a few noisy 'businesses' down.

i just use mine for personal use now . i used to do loads of car wheels and motorbike frames on a Saturday part time business . someone over the field on the estate said doesn't it bother you all the noise from the dow mac concrete works over the road from me that shot blast the re bar on the end of bridge sections err no i never notice everyone just thought it was them and not me because they couldn't see me doing it in the shed i had

I've got a 130CFM Ingersol with a 4cyl Yanmar, it certainly wouldn't suit an urban environment but I think it's a lot quieter than you would expect. Mine doesn't really sound much different to a mini digger. If running a pressure pot the noise created by the air flow/blasting will outweigh the engine.

Blasting facility is something all tinkerers think about having at some point but it's something that's not easy to achieve the best results quietly or cheaply unless it's all small stuff. Even though it's just for personal use I have a big(I can get a sub frame from a Mini in it) Vixen cabinet with turntable,pressure pot and hi flow extraction with air supplied by the 130CFM road compressor. If it wasn't for the convenience of doing stuff immediately when I want to it would be cheaper to just get someone to do it. That said I know my grit is clean with no oil/grease and I will also spend more time to get something perfect and not miss any bits.

I rarely use my Hodge Clemco as it's a pain dragging it all out and even more of a pain clearing up afterwards. I always hankered after a smaller container - maybe a truncated 20 footer - where stuff could be left set up ready for use and the grit would be contained but so far I've not achieved that.

thats why i dont do it for anyone. i did used to have a wooden shed lined with rubber conveyor belt on the floor and walls but it had to go so all the big stuff has to be done outside and set up

Interesting thread! I've long been mulling getting the acres of cream paint blasted off of my bungalow with a view to re-rendering then ewi. The rendering is a mix of smooth and stippled and tbh horrible. The stippled areas appear to have been done with an old chip pan. The only thing uniform is the colour! Also some cracks where extensions have been tacked on.

Luckily I'm detached. Neighbours not too near but a few bottles of wine would probably smooth things over if it's as noisy as I'm now reading here.

Just remembered I need a windfall etc to be able to do it. Ignore me!

Just don't use someone who normally uses steel shot, you may find the rust streaks on the walls offensive.

they use crushed glass now on stone buildings its cheaper and more environmentally friendly. they wouldnt use steel shot anyway its 2 expensive and reusable it used to be copper slag used

All the local rent-a-tool outfits here have sandblasting setups at a daily rate. Very popular for de-rendering the lime plaster for the exposed stone look.
And, they still use sand...
