It helps with the hammer forming if you 'form' the straighter bits first 'pushing' the metal towards the sharper curved bits, giving you a bit more material to stretch out. Annealing as you work also helps as does radiusing and deburring the sheet edge, removing any weak points where cracks can start.
I have seen very small folded edges put into the sheet before hammer forming to reinforce the edge, these are then cut off once hammer formed.
