I worked at bosal exhaust, we had machines a little like that.
Your ground strap idea looks superb, simple and cost effective, I have an issue here at work with static build on on rollers that feed paper into machinery, I've tried various expensive methods, that might be worth a try.

re the static could you use carbon impregnated rubber "hairy spider legs " or copper hair strand stuff strip like is used on the inside of computer printers

Most times it is in direct contact across the full length of the roller

These are the weld return blocks we use at work, there is a spring inside the brass body to keep the block in contact with manipulator.

For a rotary welding table .. why not use an old cut down driven axle for the 90 degree drive transmission .
They can usually be driven either from the prop shaft input or at the end of one of the half shafts if the other end is welded fast .
Make up three sets of double belt pulleys two for drive and one set for an automatic spring type device belt tensioner .
Then drive it via a matched pair of fan belts to keep the weld electricity off the drive motor bearings . Set the drive motor on a frame that is electrically insulated by old engine mounts

Under the table top attach a brass earth ring and use some of the big starter motor brushes under spring tension as the welder ground /earth point contact that is run out to a heavy duty earth clamping point.


If the table is large or has heavy loads also put four or six hard nylon castor's on adjustable legs equidistant under it towards the outer edge

Does anybody know where I can purchase a spring loaded carbon brush assembly for mig welding application on turntables. We do a lot of coordinated motion with Mig welding and I need some brushes capable of 400 amps each. Appreciate any help. Have search the internet and have not found anything that we can pruchase.
