I found the best thing to do is talk to the person that services the extinguishers where you work, my workshop has

3 2kg powder distributed around the place
1 7kg foam
1 large co2
2 smaller spray type water

All free as they had reached their 5 year limit, but they are stored pressure units with guages so I know they are serviceable and if any of them look a bit iffy he gives me more of them for free as it saves him the cost of disposing of them, everyone wins

Dry powder will get everywhere and can mess up electrics, CO2 is best for electrical. If you have a lot of liquid fuel kicking around though you'll want DP.

Pretty much the same as me then, I plan to attack with CO2 first to see if I can damp the fire down so I can knock the power off, then follow up with DP and the water hose. No plan survives contact with the enemy of course but having a plan is better than nothing!.
Not that I'm planning on having a fire-hopefully precautions and prevention will preclude that.

I should add I do a lot of wood work as well hence things like CO2 extinguishers can be more of a problem as they tend to distribute lighter weight burning material around the place to start many more fires!
