On a factory floor - hard hat.

Tell that to people who have never had a hard hat culture before, when you don't get enough back-up from line managers.
Mind you, they wear them on the "big" projects. I dunno. They didn't listen to me as they didn't directly report to me, and I wasn't going to be "that guy" who dug his heels in the ground.
Getting outside contractors to wear hard hats was much easier.
My point was, when management made bump caps mandatory across site, i just listened to the complaints with a vague smile on my face. Hard hats are still just mandatory on one or two "big" projects that have a hard compound boundary around them. Much easier to police.
I don't care anymore since I'm out the door in 2 weeks

We had a member of central ops turn up to a school, wearing 5 point ppe....
The team were replacing light fittings with some work in suspended ceilings
Cue central ops wally demanding all work stops until they are wearing hard hats
Tried to reason with him, even going as far as going through the RAMS, no risk of falling objects etc etc

Nope, having none of it, ended up getting him off site and carrying on the next day

He tries to make this into a huge deal, involved the SHE team and the CDM team

You can guess what is coming, after 2 weeks of nonsense his replacement was announced, he has gone distinctly sideways I'm told.

It's a fairly complex setup, we basically hand over to central ops for delivery, but of course not that simple in real life.

There are certain arguements I will never win and just accept, however SHE (who get the final say) sided with me on this one and his performance was evaluated across all projects, hence the sideways move

Not sure about his replacement, time will tell

I was surveying with a contractor at a factory in Valencia, did the induction donned all the required PPE and hooked up with one of the site engineering guys for the survey.
I hadn't clocked it but my contractor although having all the PPE on had a neck scarf.

It was barely visible under her hi vis but the site HS comandante' (also a lady) flew in with a rage, what happened next was nothing short of common assault, dragging her off by her shoulders and pulling at the scarf!
Although we were not in machinery she should have taken it off, but the reaction was the worst I've witnessed, my contractor was pretty shook up by it. Complained and a verbal warning was issued.

They do a worthy important job but some can be way over the top.
