Securing sponge on soldering station?

I've never used the sponge. I have one of those things like a swarf scouring pad.

A brass swarfy thingie scouring pad is exactly what I use

What do you guys use to keep it there permanently? I've used double side tape, 3M double sided foam tape, types of glue, nothing keeps it in place for long.

I have a bench soldering station and the sponge only comes out if I knock it over or carry it somewhere with a dry sponge. Wet it tends to stay put as it’s swollen.

I popped the aluminium tray out and was going to stick a bit of steel underneath and use a couple of magnets but even with the steel placed on top, the couple of neo magnets I have just didn't seem up to the job especially when the sponge were fully expanded/wet. I ended up drilling four 1mm holes and used some wire.

Quick and simple - stainless pot scrubber and mackerel tin (other tins may be available).

What bike is that then? Something from the eighties maybe, that fairing certainly looks old.

Wires coming through the left hand pocket, trying to fit a stereo maybe??

A simple solution for retaining a sponge is to use a small Tobacco or Mint tin and secure a magnet to your soldering station to hold it if desired. Close the lid on the tin to minimise evaporation when done soldering. The benefit of this is that you can put it closer to the job at hand rather than reaching way back to the "designated " sponge location under certain circumstances. (Coin for scale.)

GS850 that had a Vetter fitted (by me) a few years ago. Now has a Pantera II instead, with extra doo-dahs.
Wiring was ripping out the PO's dreadful stuff and putting something better in.
